    2022 BPCR Silhouette Match

    Billings, Montana – May 1, 2022

    Yellowstone Rifle Club

NRA rules, 40 shots for score

The May 1, 2022, match had 16 competitors who braved cold winds, rain and targets that disappeared against wet berms. Good scores were shot, especially considering the extremely difficult conditions.

    Equipment List:

2022 Texas Regional Big Bore BPCR Match

    Yaupon Creek, Columbus, Texas

    May 21-22, 2022

The following are the results from the 2022 Texas Regional BPCR Big Bore Silhouette Match held on May 21. The match was scheduled for two days (40 shots per day) but the forecast indicated a high chance of rain for Day Two. Rather than take a chance, a show of hands by the shooters overwhelming voted to hold an additional abbreviated 20-shot second match on Day One after a 30-minute break.

It was a warm and muggy day with intermittent strong variable winds that affected the turkeys and rams scores but reduced the effects of the heat and humidity a bit. A total of 31 shooters (21 scope and 10 iron), including nine from out-of-state and three as far away as Georgia, competed at the Yaupon Creek range near Columbus, Texas. The average scores were close between the Iron and Scope shooters, with the average Iron sight scores edging out the Scope scores by almost two animals; an interesting result that is contrary to many other matches where Scope shooters typically have a slight advantage. A shoot-off was required to determine the 2nd and 3rd place Iron shooters and three shoot-offs were necessary to decide the 1st through 3rd place for the Scope category. All in all, it was an enjoyable match and an opportunity to meet and shoot with some out-of-state shooters.

2022 Oregon Territory BPCR Silhouette Match

    John Day, Oregon – May 18-22, 2022

    Bear Creek Range

    Long Range Buffalo Match

    Promontory, Utah

    June 4-5, 2022

    Golden Spike Buffalo Range

    by Denny Wilcox

Day One of the match was cool and overcast. In the Buffalo Match (1,123 yards) with 20 shots for record, John Rockwell turned in a score of nine with his Browning .45-70 for third place, and Roberta Oliver took second place with a score of 10 using her Browning .40-65. Jim Smith took first with a score of 11 shooting his Shiloh Sharps .45-90.

The Creedmoor Match was fired in the afternoon with 10 shots for score at each of 800-, 900- and 1,000-yard targets. John Rockwell came in third, posting a score of 28 and two centers using his Browning .45-70 while Ken Myers shot a score of 39 with 13 centers using his custom-barreled Browning 1885 in .40-82. Finally, Jim Smith came in first with a score of 39 and 13 center hits. Note that Ken and Jim had tie scores that are usually broken by center hits on the 1,000-yard score. Since the number of centers was the same, we had a shoot-off, which Jim Smith won on his second shot.

Day Two started out sunny and cool, but soon turned to overcast, windy and spitting rain. All competitors persevered through the weather and Jim Smith turned in a score of 49 and one center hit for third place shooting his Sharps .40-65 while John Rockwell shot a 58 and eight center hits to take second place shooting his Browning .45-70. Ken Myers shot a score of 60 with nine center hits using his Sharps .40-65 to take first place.

Ken Myers also had the best aggregate score for the weekend of 105 to take the “Top Gun” award. All in all, it was great shooting in our ever-changing Utah springtime conditions.
