Montana Vintage Arms Scope Sunshade / SPG Sales Rifle Restore

    Montana Vintage Arms Scope Sunshade

Scopes on BPC rifles are becoming more and more common as the years go by, probably for a very good reason. Most of us are dealing with aging eyes, and scopes simply let us shoot and compete more effectively. Montana Vintage Arms is the supplier of what many serious riflemen regard as the best scope available today and as such, is also offering some great accoutrements to go with those scopes. One new item that has just been offered is a three-inch long sunshade that fits on the objective end of the MVA scope and is really a necessary accoutrement.

Putting a sunshade on any scope helps with glare and I think aids a well-defined sight picture through the eyepiece. However, there’s a secondary benefit in that it helps protect the objective lens from the dirt and scratches that all too regularly happen, especially when the scope is used on outdoor ranges. Extending the scope’s objective end also helps with cutting the mirage generated by a hot barrel.

The new MVA sunshade can be threaded to fit the A5-B5 model scopes, the Model A and the earlier MVA 2000/6000 series scopes and has a friction fit cover that keeps out dirt and dust when the scope is not in use. Scopes are not cheap and the MVA sunshade will definitely help protect your investment. I consider them to be a necessary addition to your MVA scope.

Old Springfield ’03 stock after several hand-rubbed coats of Rifle Restore.
We reviewed this product from SPG Sales a few issues ago and liked what it did in regards to “bringing-up” the finish on worn or scratched stocks. Being able to simply wipe the wood down with it to hide scratches and remove grime was great, but the fact that it didn’t remain tacky to the touch was a real bonus.

One of my latest projects was restoring an old Springfield 1903 rifle with a very dried out and scratched stock. I didn’t want to refinish the wood because that would have made it look, well, refinished. So, I have been applying thin coats of Rifle Restore, rubbed in well by hand, over the last couple months and am very pleased with the results. Mind you, there was the old linseed oil finish left on the wood but it was pretty tired looking. The Rifle Restore simply “brought it up” and made it look like a nice old finish that had been well taken care of.

The matches that many of us shoot are outdoors and by necessity we subject our fine rifles to rain, dust and sun. I have made a point of wiping my guns down with Rifle Restore after every competition and they look much better for it, not having a build-up of grime and dirt. I also include Rifle Restore in my gunshow box, as it is great for wiping down the wood and metal of a firearm that the guy who is eating salted peanuts just picked up off my table. Don’t laugh…I have actually had that happen! I almost think guns are subjected to more wear and tear at gunshows than they are out on the range. A soft rag with Rifle Restore on it is the quick and easy way to keep rifles free from rust and fingerprints.

Rifle Restore can be purchased from SPG Sales, P.O. Box 745, Kirksville, Missouri 63501. Phone: 660-988-4099 or spgbaker@yahoo.com. Their web address is blackpowderspg.com. While looking at their website you should really take a look at the rest of their great product range for shooters. If they are selling it, rest assured that they have used the product themselves and stand behind it. S
