Our cover for this issue comes from Bill Mapoles and features two Sharps Model 1853 carbines with an issue sling and cleaning brush. The ’53 Sharps is a favorite of Bill’s and his third article on this historic firearm is featured in this issue. Bill studies the Sharps carbine and its usefulness from a rifleman’s viewpoint, focusing on typical field usage and practical accuracy, as well as the rifle’s role in historic events. It makes for very interesting reading and I’m sure you will agree. Thanks Bill, for a great cover and an informative article.
